WE ARE A CREATIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS FOR THE EXPLORATION OF NEW IDEAS AND INVENTIONS
We are a 501c3 organization with approximately 150 members. Our makerspace is run completely by our volunteer members. We learn from each other and enjoy sharing our knowledge with others.
THE SHOP AND THE LAB
The woodworking and metal working equipment is found at The Shop. When open to the public, The Shop has a Manager on Duty. The laser cutters, 3D printers, sewing machines, vinyl cutters and printers are at The Lab. Members have 24/7 access to The Lab, therefore no managers are on duty here
In both areas, safety is a prime concern. Proper safety and use training is given to all new members. This practice helps our members gain the confidence they need to operate the equipment safely. It also helps keep the equipment operational through proper use and care.
THE MAKER BARN
The MakerBarn began as a dream and a desire to share the “making” spirit with others. Our humble beginnings started with an old barn, a small team of dedicated volunteers, and a lot of sweat-equity working through a hot, Texas summer. It took over a year of planning, clean-out, and construction to make the MakerBarn a reality. “If you build it, they will come.” In June 2016, The MakerBarn opened, people came, they saw the value, and membership started to grow.
